On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, the Obama Administration announced a one year postponement of the Affordable Care Act, ACA, to large business owners. They claim that this decision to delay implementation is the result of thoughtful dialogue with business but the reality may be that the government is simply unable to implement the complicated and unfeasible program. This postponement does not affect the other provisions of the ACA such as the availability of premium tax credits or the individual mandate to purchase health care coverage. It is yet another signal of this unraveling program.
Meanwhile, predictions of substantial cost increases necessary to meet the obligations of the ACA and ongoing actions of large business to cut their work force are ongoing concerns that will affect markets and our economy.
